Jimi Hendrix? Barry White? Bruce
Lee?
What have all of these people got in common?
They all died without making a Will. Consequently, after their deaths there
were lengthy disputes between their families over their estates.
We
appreciate that nobody likes to consider their own death. It is, however,
important to do so. Most people assume that if they do not make a Will
their husband or wife will automatically inherit. This is not always the case.
It is even more complicated for unmarried couples, or those in a second
marriage.
A lot of people also assume that Wills are only for elderly
people, or the wealthy. Again, this is not the case. By the time most people
are in their late 20s they often have their own house, life insurances,
pensions and savings. Some have children. Most do not, however, have Wills.
It is therefore crucial for everyone, young and old, to make a Will.
At Mills Kemp & Brown every Will is written to meet your specific
needs, taking into account your personal circumstances, including addressing
your family commitments, level of assets, and the possible impact of any
taxes.
Those with young children can also use their Wills to deal with
the issue of who would look after their children should they die when the
children are still young.
Your Will needs to be a specific document
created for you as an individual, based upon exactly what you want and need,
and not just a blank form bought from your newsagent or the supermarket. At
Mills Kemp & Brown our experienced team can help you with all aspects of
the creation of your Will, and we make sure it addresses all the issues it
needs to.
After all, if William Shakespeare can, in his Will of 25th
March 1616, leave to his wife Anne Hathaway my second best bed, it
is clear that every Will needs to be created specifically for the individual
concerned!
