If an elderly
relative is having difficulty handling financial affairs or you yourself are
then it is possible to appoint somebody to handle them for you or assist you
with them. This is called giving them Power of Attorney.
A Power of Attorney can also now be created to enable an individual to make welfare and health decisions on your behalf if you are unable to do so yourself for any reason.
If, however, a family member is unable to create a Power of Attorney due to
illness or a lack of understanding there are procedures in place for an
individual to be appointed by a court the Court of Protection. Such
appointed person can then deal with the relatives financial affairs and
deal with any issues that arise in the future.
Our experienced team at
Mills Kemp & Brown are able to assist with all aspects of Power of Attorney
and Court of Protection work, and our aim is to make this often upsetting and
frustrating area as simple and quick as possible.
